About the Jesuits

Jesuits are members of a Religious Order called the Society of Jesus. In short S.J. The Society of Jesus was founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola along with his nine Companions. Pope Paul III approved the Society of Jesus in 1540. The Society of Jesus is also popularly known as Jesuits. The members can choose to be priests who are ordained to be priest or Brothers who do not take ordination. At present there are 20,741 Jesuits of which 21,155 are Brothers. (Year 2002)
